12 Inch Hardwood Magnetic Folding Chess Set

Our 12 Inch Sheesham Magnetic Travel Chess Set has been redesigned!

Whereas previous versions included a metal clasp to join the folded board, our new design incorporates magnets on both ends of the board to ensure the set stays securely closed when not in use. The end result is that the folded set has a smooth uniform finish – there is no danger of catching a clasp on fabric or something of the sort.

The corners of mortise and twin tenon joints make for a superbly integrated wood structure. All four corners are rounded symmetrically for a pleasant aesthetic.

The frame of the set is medium to dark brown naturally patterned solid hardwood. The 64 individual squares on the playing surface are inlaid Maple for the light squares and babul wood for the dark squares. All of the exposed wood is hand polished to ensure a pleasant playing surface. Unlike cheaper folding sets with a lacquered finish, this surface of this set is not reflective or shiny.

The magnets used to keep the set closed are not the only ones in the set! Underneath the felt bases of each of the 34 (2 quuens of each colour) individual pieces is lightly weighted magnet. The magnetic chess pieces are attracted to the metal surface hidden below the inlaid wooden squares of the chess board. The pieces will all stay held to the board even when the set is upside down – just don’t rotate it too quickly!

This is a great set for occasions when a present is in the picture. The 12 Inch size is quite popular - not too big and not too small.
