Hand-turned coils sit at the necks of every ornament apart from the knights, which have delicately carved with sweeping manes. You will also notice the elongated mouths that help to form a curved knight that is as impressive in its silhouette as when scrutinized under light. The bishop has a similarly distinctive form, with the recognizable Staunton tulip shape separated by an unusually intricate cut. This open-faced style adds to the stoic elegance of these four royal wardens.

Further out on the perimeter are a set of columned rooks that show the natural grain of rosewood better than any other chess piece in the Bath set.
