This superb chess set combines the legendary Isle of Lewis chess pieces with a beautiful wooden chessboard of Mahogany and Maple. The chess pieces are precise reproductions of the originals which were discovered in 1831. These fine British made chess pieces are brought to you by the National Museums of Scotland. They are moulded from detailed laser scans of the originals that are the property of the museum. The Isle of Lewis chess pieces are established as one of the most famous and original chess designs in the world.
The large chessboard at just over 21 inches is made in Europe from a sustainable mahogany plantation. Each board has a light layer of lacquer to protect the playing surface. The colours of both chess board and chessmen harmonize quite well and create a beautiful chess set.
