THE PIECES
Easily recognizable with his trademark moustache and haunted look, the infamous Hitler is flanked by incredibly detailed, high ranking officers on both sides. They in turn command the uniformed Pawns who are presenting to arms.

The Rooks and Knights are the dramatic pieces in this set with a formidable tank representing the Knight. The Rook is a superbly detailed building. Despite it bearing the Swiss flag, we believe this to be the Reichstag Building in Berlin.

US President from 1933 until 1945, Franklin Delano Roosevelt leads the American force. His right hand man is potentially the high ranking Sergeant Major of the Army, a rank bestowed on only one man. The Bishop stands proud as a sergeant major overseeing the ranks of the smartly uniformed Pawns. Again the Rooks and Knights are the pieces with The White House bearing the US Flag and a tank in action.

We have matched these historical pieces with a fine 15.75 inch walnut and maple board to produce this chess set. However Second World War Chess Pieces are also available without the board. Either way they make a superb gift for any WWII historian or chess enthusiast.

THE HISTORY
A combat veteran who rarely smiled in public or private, Adolf Hitler disliked democracy and felt wronged by his country’s failure in World War I. Wanting to make amends for this failure, he imposed his will and law on both the Germans and the Russians. He wanted to be highly regarded in history, however after his defeat, on which he blamed the lack of the will of his countrymen, he took his own life.

As World War II loomed, President Roosevelt provided substantial support to both the UK against the aggressive Nazi Germans and to China against threats from Japan. Despite his efforts to stay officially neutral, following the tragedy at Pearl Harbour, the US declared war not only on Japan, but also Hitler a few days later.

In spite of his disability from polio, his war efforts were not just his masterful military strategies. As people moved into wartime factory jobs and into military service, unemployment decreased developing a stable and significant improvement to the economy. Unfortunately, with his health declining during the war years, Roosevelt sadly passed away 3 months into his 4th term. He is widely respected as ranking amongst the top three of American Presidents along with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
