Supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world's finest chessmen, these stunning pieces have been turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with beautiful detailing. Superbly finished, the Reproduction Staunton Chessmen 1849 Model 4.4 inch King are handcrafted in Ebony and Boxwood in the world famous and classic Staunton design.
At 4.4 inches, the king is an imposing figure and along with his supporting army, is perfectly weighted for balance with billiard cloth covered bases for board protection.
The ebony quality makes this set, not only an enviable acquisition but also a good investment and heirloom for future generations.
Due to the king’s height and broad base in this set, we have matched these lovely chess men with a stunning board from Rechapados Ferrer in Spain. Exclusively commissioned by The Regency Chess Company, this 23.6 inch creation has a beautifully rich Palisander Rosewood border, deep black Anegre and light mMple 2.36 inch squares. A perfect playing area for these Reproduction Chess Pieces.
The perfectly constructed laminated wenge coloured large wooden Chess Piece case is manufactured by the famous family run company, Manopoulos of Greece so, rest assured, it has been well made by expert craftsmen. It features a large compartment together with the addition of brass colour hinges and the Manopoulos signature brass clasps to keep the lid closed, the resulting product is a timeless classic. All in all, a stunning chess set combination for your home.
Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.
The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
