The Competition Staunton Chess pieces are crafted from solid Boxwood and Ebonized Boxwood. The attention to detail is impressive. The Knights feature distinctive, aggressive features with a well defined mane and flared nostrils. Beautifully weighted and balanced, the pieces are presented in a hand made solid Sheesham chess piece case which is lined inside with green flock. The case, which is polished in natural waxes, is an attractive complement.
The
chess board is moderately large at 21.25 inches square. Made from sustainable Mahogany and Maple in Spain, it provides the perfect platform to display these attractive chess pieces.
We have sourced the various parts for this chess set from two key chess suppliers. The board comes from the world's largest, and arguably the best, producer of chess boards in Spain,
Rechapados Ferrer. We opted for the Spanish version to ensure that this set maintains the highest precision and quality. The pieces and box come from one of our preferred producers of high quality chess pieces. This classic solid Staunton pieces are nicely weighted. They are the perfect complement for the Mahogany chess board.
Please note that the box included in this lovely set is now supplied with the new and improved hidden magnetic closing mechanism and not with the brass clasps as seen. It is also supplied without the divider.
