Fischer-Spassky Chess Sets
This is quite simply one of the most famous chess sets in history. In the ‘Match of The Century’ held in 1972 in Reykjavik, Iceland at the height of the Cold War, Robert James Fischer defeated Boris Spassky of the USSR. In a match that almost was called off, Fischer started with a forfeit loss and a real loss in having to overcome a deficit of two games against an opponent whom he had never defeated. Fischer came back and won the match decisively by a score of 12-1/2 to 8-1/2.
The pieces used in this set are an interpretation of the classic Staunton design established in 1849. The simple yet distinctive style is carved, turned, polished and finished into beautiful replicas of the original pieces. The board was a standard wooden board with a minimal continuous wood border. Our Boxwood and Walnut board is most like the original board. We also offer different types of boards for those who prefer to use the replicas of the original pieces with a board that suite their decor.
