The chess pieces are carved, polished and finished in a top grade of Red Sandalwood and Boxwood with a clean fine grain. It is the hand polishing of these pieces that provides a much superior finish to that of lacquered pieces. As Red Sandalwood is now banned for export this is a set of pieces that can only become more valuable over time.
