Unique Chess Sets
With our Unique Chess Sets we have four different types of pieces. The Antipodean set is a classic Staunton interpretation with an Eastern European flair – the top of the bishops, Queen and King are all coloured like the pieces on the other side of the board. This take on the pieces is the norm for both casual chess players and tournament chess players in Eastern Europe. The Contemporary pieces are minimalist and modern – these are the perfect complement to the current popular trend in contemporary high end custom housing design. The Lotus Flowers pieces are an ornate Pre-Modern (pre-1849 when the Staunton pieces debuted) chess design. Our personal favourite is the Man Ray Chess set. Designed in 1920, ironically this is our most ‘modern’ chess set.
THE CRAFTING OF ORNATE CHESS SETS
The primary difference between our Ornate Chess Pieces and the standard Staunton pieces is the degree of creativity involved – here the possibilities are limitless. While Staunton Chessmen are restricted by a classic parameters, the Ornate designs are free from convention – there are no restrictions on imagination! Our course we insist that our sets meet the same quality standards as others in our collection. Considering the fine detail and intricate carving in the Lotus Flowers pieces this is quite the task. Of the vast number of sets available we have chosen those which we believe represent the best in quality and design. Over the course of 2014 we will be introducing many new sets that are designed from various materials in exciting designs.
WHY CHOOSE AN ORNATE CHESS SET?
It is very common for our customers to ask for advice in choosing from the myriad designs available on our site. For those seeking to make a bold statement or to place real ‘conversation piece’ into their decor, the Ornate Chess Sets are a popular choice. Some customers are very interested in the stories behind the creation of the sets. Other customers simply appreciate the aesthetics of the pieces. Whatever the case, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we may assist in your decision making process.
